Excellent but becoming dated

When it was originally published, this was the best available book on a complex and rapidly changing topic. But, unfortunately, some parts of the book have become very outdated. Nevertheless, it is still a good introduction to the technical aspects of e-commerce. It concentrates on Java code, and that is still the core of modern distributed client-server systems. However, much more detail is needed to actually build reliable high-performance systems. For example, error processing would be needed for the Sockets. Also, whole new application fields have emerged. Yet, mobile applications receive almost no coverage.
