About the Author
Professor P.J. Quinn, T.A.McGeady, M.T. Ryan and E.S. FitzPatrick are all at University College, Dublin, in Ireland.
Carol H. Fitzpatrick received her B.A. in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her M.A. in English from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Currently, she directs the Writing and Rhetoric Division, Department of English, at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Fred Hobson is professor of American literature at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is the author of Mencken: A Life and Serpent in Eden: H. L. Mencken and the South. Vincent Fitzpatrick is assistant curator of the Mencken Collection at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore and the author of H. L. Mencken. Great Sentence Combining Exercise source

I used this book with adults in a Business English class, and they really liked the exercises. There are sections on fragments and run-on sentences that seemed to open their eyes to mistakes that they were making in their writing. Highly recommended.

I have the 4th edition

I have the 4th edition and it's pretty good - it does the job. That job could be helping someone who is learning English as another (2nd or 3rd etc.) language or helping a native speaker who wants to improve.
I have to say I`m put off buying this 5th edition by the extremely high price. Really this ought to be a $35 book. It's black and grey ink on thin white paper. I suggest the publisher change their tactic and sell this at a price more accessible to .. say .. new immigrants or working people moving into a more responsible and "formal" role at work.
If you have to write good emails/ business correspondence or academic essays this is a good book.

I have not had a chance to read through this book. I am sure that it will be more than I expected. I glanced through the table of contents and it seem to have what I needed.
